Last year, HelloFresh delivered nearly 500 million meals to customers across North America. We source, package, and distribute our meal kits from locations nationwide to best serve our growing customer base. If you’ve ever been curious about how your ingredients get from the farms to your door every week, take a closer look at our Newark, NJ facility—our largest distribution center in the U.S.—and meet some of the dedicated team members who make it all happen.

What Makes Newark Unique

Hellofresh employee meeting

The Newark team meets to discuss goals and feedback.

The Newark, NJ distribution center is a fulfillment warehouse and the central hub for shipping HelloFresh orders across the Northeast. Here, we receive fresh produce and protein from farms and suppliers to prepare each order. These items are stored in a temperature-controlled environment until they are selected for each meal kit. Once selected, the ingredients are picked, packaged into their respective boxes, sorted into shipping lanes, loaded onto trucks, and sent on their way.

“Everyone is making sure that our customer promise is delivered upon—quality of the product, making sure that everything accurately goes into the box, and that it arrives to the customer on time.” JC Almonte, Sr. Manager, Operations

To foster open communication and ensure that everything runs smoothly, our Newark team holds regular town halls and pulse checks. They believe that by sharing feedback, we not only strengthen our business, but our culture, too—and that when knowledge is shared, we can grow together.

Connecting with the Community

At HelloFresh, we like to stay connected with the communities where we work and live by giving back and doing good where we can. In Newark, we partner with Table to Table to ensure any surplus ingredients that don’t make it into meal kits are used to feed those facing food insecurity. We have been working with Table to Table for nearly a decade, and our nationally recognized collaboration has helped thousands of local residents access the healthy, consistent meals they need to survive.

Additionally, we partner with the City of Newark to distribute specially crafted HelloFresh meal kits to individuals in need through our Meals with Meaning program. Each kit includes fresh ingredients and step-by-step recipe cards, providing recipients with everything they need to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals.

Sustainability Highlights

Our Newark facility is advancing sustainability through our partnership with Waste Management (now WM), which takes our food waste and transforms it into renewable energy through its Centralized Organics Recycling (CORe) Program. The food waste generated by this facility is sent to a CORe partnership site, helping to power thousands of homes in the area with biogas and reducing millions of tons of solid food waste from landfills. Get to know the program further here. Learn more about our supply chain and sustainability efforts here.

In partnership with ProLogis and their Solar Smart program, we recently completed a two-year project to install solar panels on top of the entire 60,000 sq. ft. building in Newark, reducing our footprint and increasing our use of renewable energy—a huge win for our sustainability team!

Our Newark team works hard…and keeps smiling as they do!

Thank you to our incredible HelloFresh team in Newark for your hard work and dedication. Because of your efforts, we’re able to bring fresh food to people around the country—from farm to door!

“Our employees are really our secret sauce.” JC Almonte
