In the heart of Black History Month, we are sharing ways our employees educate, engage, and elevate the community. Today, we spotlight Koreco Wilkins-Webster, Senior Manager of Logistics Tech based in Texas, whose story embodies resilience, determination, and the celebration of African American heritage.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Koreco’s journey to success intertwines his personal and professional experiences, showcasing the power of representation and unity. Koreco is a first-generation college student – he attended Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in mechanical engineering before starting his career at Nestle USA.
He quickly made strides in his career at Nestle USA, expanding his leadership and expertise in various roles across engineering, operations, and continuous improvement functions which prepared him for his role at HelloFresh. Reflecting on his transition to HelloFresh, Koreco shares, “Taking what I learned at Nestle USA, I was drawn to the company’s culture, which was refreshingly unique. I saw younger professionals in positions of influence, and I felt inspired to be a part of that environment.”
Koreco’s strategic vision and collaborative approach have been instrumental in shaping HelloFresh’s operations strategy, which in turn, has resulted in improved efficiency, cost savings, and enhanced customer experiences. His leadership and commitment to excellence continue to propel HelloFresh forward, making him a valued asset to the company.
Getting Involved in ERGs
At HelloFresh, Koreco found not only a fulfilling career but also a supportive community that values diversity and inclusion. When asked about how the company supports minority backgrounds, Koreco remarks, “I believe HelloFresh’s efforts are authentic and I feel like I can bring my entire self to work. While there’s always room for improvement, the company’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment is evident.”
Koreco is actively engaged in HelloFresh’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) including LIMES, which is dedicated to minority employees. He participates in programs and initiatives aimed at promoting diversity and understanding within the company, such as participating in a “Navigating Upward Mobility” panel and acting as a HelloMint mentor. HelloMint is a 3-month peer-based mentor program within the company that connects individuals based on areas of focus or interest. Overall, Koreco emphasizes the importance of visibility for underrepresented minorities in leadership positions, highlighting the need for continued progress in this area.
How Koreco Celebrates Black History Month
Beyond the workplace, Koreco’s perspective on Black History Month reflects a deep appreciation for the contributions of African Americans throughout history. He emphasizes, “Black history is American history. It’s about unity and building a better tomorrow for future generations.”
Koreco’s connection to Black History Month extends to his upbringing and the values instilled by his family. He shares, “Education has always been a cornerstone in my family. I reflect on the impact of historical events like Brown vs. Board of Education, which paved the way for me to attend institutions like Michigan State University, and ultimately to this role at HelloFresh.” In giving back to the next generation, Koreco has helped establish a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) scholarship at Michigan State University in honor of his grandmother to support underrepresented minorities.
To celebrate Black History Month, Koreco encourages his colleagues and the broader community to support black-owned businesses and engage in learning about Black culture. Koreco’s journey serves as a reminder of the importance of embracing inclusion and supporting the next generation of diverse leaders.
