Our mission is to change the way people eat, forever. That includes ensuring that nutritious food is accessible to all—365 days a year. With over 44 million Americans facing food insecurity today, the need for support has never been greater.

September is Hunger Action Month, a month-long campaign that raises awareness of hunger in the US and encourages people to take action. At HelloFresh, we work every day with corporate partners, local organizations, government officials, logistics professionals, and even customers to fight food insecurity in communities across the US.

Here’s how we’re serving up action year-round—and how you can join in on the action this September.

Helping Kids and Families

Earlier this year, HelloFresh surveyed parents (Hunger Matters for Families) to understand just how personal and urgent childhood food insecurity is for families. According to the research, nearly half of parents said they were more stressed about putting food on the table for their families than this time last year.

Through a partnership with No Kid Hungry, HelloFresh hit the road this summer to join the fight against childhood hunger. Now, we’re continuing this fight as kids head back to school. For the month of September, you can help us take action to make sure every child has the food needed to fuel their minds – with every kids’ meal you purchase in the HelloFresh marketplace, we’ll donate $1 to No Kid Hungry, which can help provide 10 meals* to kids in need.

Ongoing Donations

Our Meals with Meaning program meets communities in need where they are through collaborative, tailored partnerships. We work with local partners who are addressing food insecurity on the ground in the communities we operate in every single week. Working with our culinary team, we curate unique recipes for our Meals with Meaning program – ones that are wholesome, yet utilize common ingredients – which are then distributed through our charitable partners to reach their local communities.  With donations happening on a daily basis, we have provided more than 7 million meals through our Meals with Meaning program since its inception in 2020.

As a company, we also donate surplus food from our meal kit operations to nonprofit organizations that support families facing food insecurity. As Feeding America Leadership Partners, we are recognized for our significant contributions – in 2023, we donated 7.3 million pounds of unsold, edible food, which accounts for 53% of our total surplus food!

LimeAid Grants

LimeAid is how we pay it forward on an individual level. Anyone can nominate a friend, loved one, or neighbor facing food insecurity for the chance to receive 12 weeks of free HelloFresh meals. The sustainability team assesses nominations and selects winners on a quarterly basis (average 200 winners per year).

Getting Involved

There are many ways to join us in helping support those facing food insecurity. You can add a donation to “Meals with Meaning” in the HelloFresh Market, ensuring communities continue to receive wholesome meal kits. Or you can “donate your box.” If you decide to skip your weekly order, you can contribute the cash value of your box to Meals with Meaning too.
