When school’s out for summer, millions of kids across the country lose access to the meals they rely on during the school year. It’s a crisis that’s especially urgent now, as families face rising food costs and SNAP cuts.
That’s why HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry launched the Hunger Hero campaign, a nationwide effort to spotlight individuals making a difference and to inspire others to take action against summer hunger.
One of those heroes is Eitan Bernath, an award-winning chef, author, and advocate who’s using his time, voice, and far-reaching platform to make a difference.
Meet Eitan Bernath: A Chef Using His Voice for Good
With over 3 billion annual video views across 150 countries, Eitan has become a global voice in food and social impact. Now, he’s using that platform to speak out about childhood hunger and help address it in his own community of New York City.
“One in four children [in New York City] do not have access to food,” Eitan shares. “You could be walking around in your own neighborhood and you don’t know how many children you’re passing who don’t know where their next meal will come from.”
It’s a statistic that feels especially personal to Eitan, who has built a career around food. As a chef and content creator, he spends most of his days cooking, creating recipes, and celebrating the joy that food brings. But that same proximity to abundance also reminds him just how unevenly access is distributed.
“I work with food all day long, and it’s so easy to take for granted that you can just walk into your pantry, walk into your fridge, and grab something to eat.”

Local and Global Impact
That perspective is what motivates Eitan to take action. He’s made it a priority to give back, whether by donating food, volunteering his time and money, or speaking up about hunger on his platform.
Eitan supports hunger relief efforts both locally and globally, from helping provide meals to NYC families through City Harvest’s Share Lunch, Fight Hunger campaign to advocating for food access around the world with the United Nations World Food Programme.
“One thing I’ve learned through my involvement with this campaign,” reiterates Eitan, “Is that [nationally] 1 in 5 children are food insecure; they don’t know where their next meal will come from.”

“There’s truly no action too small,” Eitan says. “We all can make such a difference.”
The Power of Small Actions
“There’s truly no action too small,” Eitan says. “We all can make such a difference.”
Whether it’s stocking a local community fridge, hosting a neighborhood food drive, or simply sharing information, this campaign reinforces the idea that collective action in the fight against food insecurity matters.
As the summer continues, and school cafeterias remain closed, millions of kids are depending on the support of those around them. With leaders like Eitan Bernath speaking out and stepping up, we’re reminded that change starts in our own kitchens, neighborhoods, and communities.
