Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, Vicky R. was the youngest of four daughters. Her dad was a civil servant and jazz drummer and her mom worked at the local hospital. The first of her family to attend college, she went on to serve 30 years in public service in Washington State and the Federal Government.
Today, Vicky lives in Virginia, where she’s currently enjoying her retirement—and her HelloFresh meal kits!
A Health Journey with HelloFresh
Vicky didn’t initially have a passion for cooking and often relied on frozen meals or fast food for convenience. When asked what initially drew her to HelloFresh, she joked, “Hunger!” though she also noted being intrigued by how delicious the meals looked and how reasonable the prices were.
Over time, our Fit and Wholesome meal plan, combined with GLP-1 medication and exercise, helped Vicky lose 60 pounds.
“I just turned 62 this past December,” she says, “and I can honestly say I’m in the best shape I’ve been health-wise since I was in my early 20s. And HelloFresh’s Fit and Wholesome plan helps keep me on track!
Saving Time and Money
In addition to helping her stay on track with her health goals, HelloFresh saves Vicky time and money. She doesn’t have to worry about meal prep, she adds, which involves first finding the recipes and going to the grocery store to buy the ingredients. Most of her meals can be made in 30-40 minutes, including prep time.
She also saves money, as she’s not spending on gas to and from the grocery store, nor is she shopping for foods she doesn’t actually need.
“There’s not a lot of food waste, which is an added benefit,” Vicky reiterates, “And of course the meals are
delicious!”
As part of her HelloFresh process, Vicky selects two items each week and generally gets at least six meals out of these, due to leftovers, which also helps to keep her costs down.
Vicky’s HelloFresh Favorites
Vicky’s first HelloFresh creation was steak and asparagus in May 2017, at which time she started taking and sharing photos of her meals and talking about her journey with others.
Though she doesn’t consider herself as creative in the kitchen, with HelloFresh’s help, Vicky has discovered that she can make a “mean risotto”, tasty veggie meals, and delicious dishes with tofu—something that surprises both herself and her family. While she claims she does have a weakness for pasta dinners and hearty meat and potato dishes, she also loves the Honey Sriracha and Adobo-Glazed chicken dishes.
“The genius of HelloFresh is that you can make a mistake, and the meal still comes out delightful!” she says.
The Culinary Adventure Ahead
As she moves ahead in her HelloFresh journey, Vicky’s enthusiastic about all that’s to come. When asked about what she’d love to see in the future, some of her ideas include “retro” meals offered in our meal kits, or perhaps, travel adventures like river cruises that include cooking classes of HelloFresh meals around the globe! She also notes that she loves our Facebook community group where customers can share stories and photos of their own journeys.
