Native New Yorker Teresa A. has always loved food, cooking, and feeding people. But a year and a half ago, she wanted a change.
“I decided to start eating healthier and exercising,” she shares. “I was in poor health and sought out ways to improve my life. HelloFresh has helped me along my journey.”
Now, 82 boxes later (and counting!), Teresa has lost over 135 pounds. We sat down with her to hear about her incredible journey—and, of course, learn more about her favorite HelloFresh meals!

High Protein, Low Carb Meals That Fit Her Goals
To help with her healthy eating goals, Teresa follows a high-protein, very low-carb diet. She often selects meals from our menu that cover the entire day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—and gravitates toward her go-to items like egg bites, sausage, bagged salads, and tzatziki sauce.

“Most HelloFresh meals contain a protein as part of the meal,” she says. “This works for me since I eat high protein, and the portion size is appropriate.”
Though she often prepares the meals according to the recipe, she’ll sometimes make slight modifications to fit her dietary needs, which she notes is easy to do with HelloFresh.
“If I choose a meal that does not include a protein,” she shares, “I will utilize a protein sold separately. For example, there are proteins available that are not part of meals. These are valuable and useful to me.”
Teresa also notes that if her husband wants more carbs, he gets double the rice or couscous while she sticks to the protein and greens.
“It works perfectly for both of us,” says Teresa.
Saving Time and Reducing Food Waste
For Teresa, HelloFresh has become a regular part of daily meal planning, ensuring that she always has healthy food in the house.
“I love going to the grocery store, but my time on most days is better spent doing other things such as exercising,” Teresa explains. “With HelloFresh, I’m able to prepare and cook meals using appropriate quantities of seasonings and food.”
She notes that if she were purchasing from the grocery store, ingredients would likely spoil (or she’d need to find someone else who could use them) as packages usually contain more than what’s needed for two people.
“I really like that there is less food waste with HelloFresh,” she adds.

Learning New Cooking Techniques
Beyond the convenience and health benefits, Teresa says HelloFresh has also introduced her and her husband to new techniques. One of the most valuable techniques she’s learned is zesting—whether it’s oranges, limes, or lemons, she finds that using the zest is a great way to add color and flavor.
She’s also learned to make an improvised steamer for dumplings (by making a coil with aluminum foil, adding water, and steaming away!) and how to cook “en papillote” by wrapping food in parchment paper.
“There’s a fish recipe using parchment paper that is absolutely amazing!” she says. “I’ve also made pan sauces that elevate the flavor of a meal to a higher level—the sauces are so delicious, I could drink the leftovers!”
Looking Ahead to New Cuisines and Concepts
Whether it’s Hispanic heritage, Indian-inspired, or global flavors, Teresa enjoys seeing and selecting items from all of the diverse, worldwide cuisines HelloFresh offers.
“Argentinian Bavette Steak with Chimichurri makes me happy in a unique way that only a foodie can understand,” she shares. She also looks forward to Thursdays, when new meal and food selections are released. And if HelloFresh ever needs a new product idea? “A branded zester, cutting board, or small microwave-safe bowl would be perfect!” she jokes.
