When summer break begins, so does a different kind of crisis for millions of children: the sudden disappearance of school meals they rely on throughout the year. With grocery prices continuing to climb, many families are left wondering where their next meal will come from.

That’s why HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry launched the Hunger Hero campaign, to spotlight individuals making a difference in their communities and inspire others to take action against summer hunger.

Among them are Becca and Justin Schwartz, the husband-and-wife duo behind Hungry Hotline. As food-loving content creators, they’ve built a loyal online community through their culinary content. But they’re also using their platform for something deeper: shining a light on the issue of childhood hunger and encouraging others to help fight it.

“No kid should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from,” says Becca.

Speaking Up for Kids Who Depend on School Meals

Becca, whose mom has worked for 20 years in elementary education, knows how much teachers worry about students once summer begins, particularly those who don’t have school-provided meals to rely on.

“It’s so amazing to see HelloFresh provide meal kits that have such easy meals and to try to reduce that stress on families and children in the summer months when they don’t have those meals to lean on at school,” Becca shares.

Turning Awareness Into Action

The Hunger Hero campaign is a joint effort between HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry.

Beyond raising awareness on social media, Becca and Justin are committed to taking action offline, too. They regularly volunteer their time with St. Mary’s Food Bank and use their influence to promote fundraising efforts.

“With our platform, we have so much opportunity to do something with organizations like St. Mary’s Food Bank,” Justin says. “You see firsthand the amount of demand that there is within the community.”

Through their Hungry Hotline brand, the team makes giving back feel approachable, something anyone can do regardless of their background or following.

“It’s so important to talk with friends and family and initiate a spark in their minds to come out, volunteer, donate,” Becca reiterates.

It’s that message that resonates with their audience and aligns with the heart of the Hunger Hero campaign: the belief that everyone can help and that every action truly counts.

The Heart of the Hunger Hero Campaign

The Hunger Hero campaign, a joint effort between HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry, was created to spotlight individuals who are stepping up to fight food insecurity in their own unique ways. Becca and Justin’s work, both online and off, is an inspiring example of how everyday voices can create an extraordinary impact.

Whether it’s encouraging followers to donate to local food banks or simply reminding people that hunger exists in every community, they’re helping shift the conversation around food access from awareness to action.

“Anyone can be a hunger hero,” Becca says,” You can donate. You can volunteer, and you can spread the word!”
