School’s out, but hunger doesn’t take a summer break. With fewer resources and rising needs, HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry are stepping up to help more families put food on the table.

When school’s out for summer, millions of kids lose access to the meals they rely on, an issue that’s more pressing than ever amid recent SNAP cuts.

That’s why this year, we’re expanding our partnership with No Kid Hungry to launch the Hunger Hero campaign, a nationwide call to help fight summer hunger in local communities.

Throughout the country, everyday heroes—parents, teachers, community leaders, food advocates, influencers, and volunteers—are stepping up to make sure kids have access to the food they need while school cafeterias are closed. With our Hunger Hero campaign, we’re celebrating those efforts and encouraging others to join the movement. 

Coming Together to Raise Awareness

The campaign officially kicked off last month with distribution events in New York City, Atlanta, and Phoenix, where families picked up free HelloFresh meal kits filled with nutritious, family-friendly recipes. Each event also offered vital resources on summer EBT, SNAP benefits, and local support services from No Kid Hungry.

Joining the effort are influencers, chefs, and food advocates using their platforms to fight hunger in their own communities. Among them: Tini Younger, a dedicated volunteer with Atlanta Mission; Eitan Bernath, a longtime supporter of the UN World Food Programme; and Becca and Justin Schwartz, who organize volunteer events with Feed My Starving Children. Each one is stepping in as a Hunger Hero, helping to raise awareness and calling on others to get involved.

“From my time volunteering at Atlanta Mission, I’ve met many families trying their best, but struggling to put meals on the table,” said viral chef Tini Younger. “Fighting food insecurity is deeply important to me. Being a part of this campaign is not just about food. It’s about dignity, joy and the chance for kids to be kids.”

The Campaign Continues

Beyond hosting these events, each Hunger Hero will call upon their followers to commit to fighting hunger, whether through donating to No Kid Hungry, volunteering at a local food bank or even simply raising awareness in their own communities. HelloFresh will donate up to $10,000 to No Kid Hungry based on likes, shares, and comments on campaign-related posts from June through August.

We’ll also be running a social media campaign spotlighting everyday hunger heroes, like food bank leaders and educators, whose behind-the-scenes efforts help keep families fed year-round. Through social posts and personal stories, we hope not only to honor their work, but also to inspire others to join the cause.

Through our long-standing partnership with No Kid Hungry, HelloFresh has helped provide  meals to children in need across the country. And this year, our movement is growing. We remain committed to keeping families’ bellies—and hearts—full, all year long. The Hunger Hero campaign helps fill the gap when school’s out, ensuring students still have access to the nutritious meals they deserve.
